Fun, prizes and galore filled the world teacher’s day celebration of Pasay City Division held on Oct. 4, 2018 at Cuneta Astrodome.
Household appliances and cash gifts were raffled to the hundreds of teachers who attended the event. Some teachers from all the 10 clusters of the division showed their talents and skills and dancing and singing.
Gracing the affair were Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto, Pasay City Congresswoman Emi Calixto-Rubiano, City Councilors, Pasay City Schools Superintendent Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, OIC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Melody P. Cruz, education program supervisors, school principals and teachers from the public elementary and secondary schools in the City.
Gawad ng Kagalingan winners were named during the celebration. To wit: Dr. Myrna B. Gaza, Principal IV of Pasay City West High School for Gawad ng Kagalingan sa Pamumuno, Mr. Errol John Ruiz, MT II of Marcela Marcelo Elementary School for Gawad ng Kagalingan sa Pagtuturo and Ms. Ma Theresa G. Hilario, Admin Assistant II of Pasay City East High School for Gawad Kagalingan sa Paglilingkod. Doctor Gaza bested Dr. Severo A. Bajado and Mr. Romy P. Socao principal of Villamor Air-Base Elementary School Principal and Maricaban Elementary School respectively.
In his message, Mayor Calixto thanked the teachers for their efforts in understanding the characters and the needs of the students. The Mayor said, “Education is life-changing and truly liberating power” and promised that he would continue to work with DepEd Pasay “to make education life changing and our Pasayeno learners to become productive Filipino citizens.”
On her part. Congresswoman Calixto-Rubiano egged on the teachers to continue guiding their students to the right path while ensuring the teachers that she would continually push for pro-teacher bills in the legislation.
Meanwhile, Doctor Ladines stressed her passion to give quality assured services for the teachers. She said, “I cannot give you high salary because it’s beyond my mandate however I can assure you with quality services, Technical Assistance on Administration and Supervision.
The next day, October 5, Pasay City West High School held its own celebration of the World Teacher’s Day where the teachers who served the school for 25 years or more were honored. They are: (25 years) Dr. Vivian Agulto, Ms. Jocelyn Chinchilla, Ms. Myrna Pantoja, Mr. Martin Pazziuagan, and Mrs. Edelmira Racca; (30 years) Ms. Marites Bontigao, Ms. Lilibeth Moico, Ms. Berlie Rapiz, Ms. Mildred Romamban and Ms. Catalina Sibug.
