The Pasay City West High School (PCWHS) administrators, teachers, and students signed a manifesto of their commitment for the environment during the opening of Science Month 2023 at the school’s gymnasium on September 27, 2023.

The signing of the commitment was led by the school Principal, Mr. Agapito Teodoro N. Manaog, Assistant Principal, Mrs. Ivy A. Tanglao, and the various department heads. Likewise, students’ commitment was represented by the officers of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) with their adviser, Mr. Romeo Darag. The moderators of the Science Club Ms. Jessa Mae Tibon of Senior High School and Mrs. Hazel B. Enerio of JHS fixed their signatures in the manifesto.

The manifesto, titled “PCWHS Commitment for the Environment,” outlines specific actions that students and teachers will take to minimize the impact of their actions on future generations, promote sustainable development through environmental protection, and embrace social responsibility.

In his inspirational message, Mr. Manaog shared his insights on the theme of Science Month 2023, “Siyensiya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Pantag na Kinabukasan.” He emphasized the crucial role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in improving the quality of life for individuals and society, highlighting that science holds the key to progress and nation-building.

Mrs. Eva E. Sabarillo, the Department Head of Science and Technology, pointed out the importance of observing Science Month in the school setting, as mandated by the Department of Education (DepEd). In her welcoming remarks, she challenged students to actively participate in the month-long celebration by engaging in various activities and giving their best efforts to ensure the event’s success.

Furthermore, Mrs. Enerio presented an overview of this year’s Science Month celebration, which includes activities such as the Envi-Art Seminar, Poster Making, Science Quiz Bee, Sci-Tok Quick Share, Sci Clicks, Info Kaalamans, Innov-Ideas, Science Research Proposal, and Exhibits. These activities are designed to enhance students’ scientific and artistic skills, fostering a love for science and a culture of innovation.

The newly elected officers of YES-O also took their oath, with Mr. Manaog presiding as the inducting officer. Following the oath-taking ceremony, an audio-visual presentation showcased the waste management campaign of YES-O.
