Senior High School Department of Pasay City West High School held the 2nd Pre- Immersion Orientation for the grade 12 students at the school gym on October 10, 2018.

Various Immersion partners attended the said Orientation. To wit: Atrium Hotel, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Kia Motors, and a number of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies. Local departments of Pasay City – Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH) and Public Employment Services Offices (PESO) – also came.

Ms. Rona from PESO told the students “Dapat meron kayong tiyaga.” She explained that hard work plays a crucial role not only in job hunting but also attaining one’s dreams. She also informed the students of the City’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) which aims to assist students who are willing to work while studying. Miss Melissa of jobstart.com confirmed that the three-month-training that they have been giving to job seekers since 2014 has been of help to job seekers in developing the right attitude and personality that a particular job requires. 

Two BPO employees shared some insights in landing a job in BPO industry. Mr. Neil Rodriguez from Automatic Data Processing reminded the students not to be choosy in job hunting. “Kunin mo kahit di mo alam”, Rodriguez quipped. He added that being picky will not help a job seeker but learning along the way will get them to success. He advised the students to constantly remind themselves what and why they are improving themselves. He pointed out that attitude is the main key in achieving one’s goal and getting a happy working life. Meanwhile,

Sir Chris from All ‘Bout People was asked to choose between skills and knowledge and he answered that he would pick both saying “You have the knowledge, therefore you have the skills, it is a package” He emphasized that an employee has to show his/her employers that he/she does not only have one but two up in his/her sleeves to get the job done.                                                 

Mrs. Grace Torres, PCWHS Assistant Principal gave the opening remarks in lieu of the school principal Dr. Myrna B. Gaza who at that time is attending a conference. Mrs. Torres explained that the immersion is part of the K-12 Program as it is a pre-requisite subject needed to complete the needed units in senior high school education. She added that the said immersion offers opportunities, familiarity with the workplace, and employment simulation.

Teachers from each track explained the requirements that grade 12 students need to complete for their immersion. Those teachers are: Ms. Liezel Clemente, STEM and HUMSS; Mr. Miles Ocampo, ABM; and Mrs. Joan Espejo TVL.

Dr. Anita Atienza gave the closing remarks while Mr. Mayorico Apelado, Mrs. Imelda Onte and Mrs. Lovein Pagatpat along with Mrs. Grace B. Torres, Assistant Principal gave the speakers certificate of appreciation. Emcees of the event are Ryan Clemente and Cheska Valerio from HUMSS 11-1 while selected students from the same class performed an energizer and an intermission number.
