Another book turned to a close as Pasay City West High School concluded its one-week celebration National Reading Month on November 20, 2024, at the school ground.
The weeklong celebration which kicked-off on November 12 featured various activities that allowed PCWHS students to showcase their passion for reading. The students exercised their critical thinking and sound reasoning in impromptu speech contest and read-a-thon contest while eloquent speakers showed their ability to speak fluently in oration. In addition, students’ creativity and innovation were expressed through the slogan making contest and poster making contest. Those who are interested in acting were given a chance to perform through the declamation contest. Finally, the students’ camaraderie, teamwork, creativity, and innovation were tested in the reader’s theater and speech coir contest.
Winners of the different contests were recognized during the closing ceremony. They received certificate of recognition and medal. They also did an encore of their winning performance during the program.
Mrs. Veronica Miranda, Head of English Department gave the welcome remarks. She emphasized the importance of reading saying, “This is the end of our National Reading Month, but this does not mean, students, that you will stop reading.” She reminded everyone that reading should be done not only during the NRM celebration but every day.
As the program ended, Mrs. Celia L. Singcol, the school’s chairperson of NRM celebration expressed her gratitude to the school principal Mr. Agapito Teodoro N. Manaog and to the assistant principal Mrs. Rosa A. Alferez for their unwavering support. She also acknowledged the department heads and the subject teachers for the consideration that they have extended to the participants of the NRM. Finally, she tanked the English teachers and the learners for allotting their time and effort for the weeklong celebration. Ms. Jessa Molina emceed the event while Ms. Cynthia L. Abarquez led the opening prayer.
