Various activities were featured in Pasay City West High School’s celebration of the National Women’s Month with the theme WE MAKE CHANGE WORK FOR WOMEN.
Spearheaded by the Araling Panlipunan (AP) department under the GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT (GAD) Program, the event focused on the discussion of continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges, and commitments.
The five-day activity kicked off on March 7, 2022 with the school administrators and non-teaching personnel doing exercises. Canniel Ordonez, MAPEH teacher, facilitated this activity. Banners/tarpaulins showcasing GAD programs and activities were also shown.
Day 2 highlighted the one-minute Tik-Tok video of some teachers dancing to women-inspired music. Then, Mrs. Piedad O. Diola, AP teacher interviewed three women from three different groups. To wit: Mrs. Gina Mendoza (from the teachers’ group), Mrs. Marife Lizardo (from the parents’ group), and Mrs. Regina San Juan (from the administrative staff). Dubbed as JUANA SAYS; Agenda ni Juana, the interview focused on the promotion of women’s rights a d protection. The two activities were shown through the Facebook page of the school powered by Streamyard.
Day 3 focused on classroom integration about Concepts of Violence Against Women and Women’s Human Rights. Each AP teacher took time to impart their knowledge on the topic and gave activities to further the learners’ awareness aimed to apply its relevance to their lives.
Day 4 celebration was capped with a Symposium cum Awarding Ceremony that highlighted talks delivered by experts on their fields such as PEMS Lurve G. Pilapil who tackled Cases Under the Jurisdiction of Women and Children Protection Office (WCPO) and Atty. Jean Napay-Litusquen, the legal officer of SDO Pasay who gave a powerful talk about the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004. After the Open Forum, the speakers were awarded their tokens and certificate of appreciation for sharing their time and expertise. Afternoon session on same day was used to recognize the Tik-tok entries of each department and run-away winners are teachers from Science, Math, Mapeh and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao Department. An exciting give-away from our very generous School Principal was delightedly taken by all the participants through an entertaining group dance – cash prize ranging from php500 to php1000 were awarded to the department who gave their first-rate dance performance.
