Pasay City West High School students Juneva Marie Babia Grade 10-Bonifacio and Earl T. Ventura Grade 12-Garnet stood glamourous in the Costume Making Contest on November 7, 2023, at Pasay City Hall.
Babia gracefully clinched the coveted First Place spot, commanding attention in her stunning Filipiniana-inspired gown meticulously crafted from recycled newspapers. The gown was further adorned with an innovative touch—pistachio nutshells served as elegant accessories, showcasing the artistic brilliance of the young designer. Meanwhile, Ventura captivated the audience with his tube-like trailed gown, a masterpiece ingeniously fashioned from corn cobs and husks, securing a well-deserved Second Place in the competition.
The triumphant duo not only claimed their titles but also received cash prizes of ₱7,000.00 and ₱5,000.00, respectively, courtesy of the Pasay City Social Welfare and Development (PCSWD) and the generous support of Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano.
This vibrant event, held in conjunction with the celebration of National Children’s Month, was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the PCSWD, led by Ms. Mary Cris F. Balicbar. The initiative received unwavering support from SDO-Pasay Curriculum Implementation Division Chief Mr. Librado Torres and SDO-Pasay Education Program Supervisor in Araling Panlipunan Mrs. Leuvina.
In recognition of their outstanding achievements, Babia, Ventura, and other winners are set to be honored during the upcoming State of the City Children’s Address scheduled for November 23, 2023. The talented young designers, under the guidance of their trainers Mr. Ivan Renz Samia and Dr. Vivian Agulto, recently had a courtesy call with school principal Mr. Agapito Teodoro N. Manaog, along with Araling Panlipunan Department Head Mrs. Socorro C. Domingo. Their remarkable creations and success have undoubtedly added a brilliant chapter to the legacy of Pasay City West High School.
