Public high school students from Pasay took over the Pasay city hall under an apprenticeship program organized by the Pasay Youth Development Council as part of the annual Boys and Girls Week held in Pasay last November 27 to December 1.
The five-day even began with Mayor Antonino G. Calixto and Congresswoman Emi Calixto Rubiano, with the city councilors welcoming the participants from the seven public schools of Pasay City: Kalayaan National High School, Pasay City East High School, Pasay National Science High School, Pasay City North High School – Tramo, Pasay City North High School – M. Dela Cruz, Pres. Corazon C. Aquino National High School, Pasay City South High School and Pasay City West High School.
Pasay Youth Development Council Chairperson Adrian Martinez introduced the Boys and Girls 2017 delegates and the guest of honor YESPH Ambassador Jose Sixto Dantes III aka Dingdong Dantes. He introduced the draft Ordinance: 10% Discount Food Purchase for the Working Students to Councilor Joey Calixto Isidro and Councilor Mark Calixto. Congresswoman Calixto, Councilor Joey Calixto-Isidro, and YESPH Ambassador Dingdong Dantes gave a pep talk to the participants.
The second day was held at the Division Office at Padre Zamora Elementary School where DepEd Usec Tonisito Umali gave a short speech. Mrs. Leuvina D. Erni, Division Education Program Supervisor for Araling Panlipunan discussed the history of Pasay City while Ms. Socorro C. Domingo, AP Department Head of PCWHS talked about drug addiction. Then, PYDC Chairperson Adrian Martinez shared his insights and experience being a Youth Leader. After the discussions, the delegates were divided into two parties and then election of the little officers followed.
Three SSG officers from PCWHS won and were designated as little City Councilors. They were: Hannah Kristel E. Austria, Maria Aveghail P. Lising and Erwin Rempone Jr. Marjorie R. Zuñiga was assigned as the little Department Head of Human Resources and Management Office.
The Clean Up Drive and Tree Planting Activities was held on the third day. PYDC Chairperson Adrian Martinez, PYDC Councilor Lesley Anne C. Rubiano, City Councilor Joey Calixto Isidro and the event’s partner JCI Perlas Pasay; EVP Lish Mendoza who donated the plants.
The Little City Officials visited Avellana’s Art Gallery at The Henry’s Hotel Manila and were able to meet and talk with the owner Mr. Albert Avellana.
On the 4th day, the participants took their five-hour duty at their respective offices. Some Little City Officials saw an actual hearing at the session hall.
The last day of event was highlighted by lighting of the Pasay City hall. Timoteo Paez Teachers Choir performed the song Kumukuti-kutitap.
