Fictional characters came to life as Pasay City West High School (PCWHS) concluded its National Reading Month (NRM) and English Week celebrations on November 26, 2025, at the school grounds.
Characters such as Ursula, Katniss Everdeen, the Queen of Hearts, Harry Potter, Maria Sinukuan, and many others took the stage as the audience cheered and applauded their vibrant portrayals. These characters had earlier been prejudged for the cosplay competition, where participants showcased their creativity in costume design and their wit during the question-and-answer portion.
The closing program also featured the announcement of winners from the various competitions held throughout the two-week celebration. These included: oratorical speech, impromptu speech, declamation, spoken poetry, poster making, slogan making, reader’s theater, and speech choir.
Winners in the speech choir, declamation, and oratorical contests performed encore presentations, while SHS teachers and The English Club officers delighted the crowd with a lively dance number.
Present during the event were PCWHS Principal Mr. Agapito Teodoro N. Manaog, Department Heads, JHS and SHS English teachers, The English Club officers, and selected students.
The program opened with a prayer led by English Club President Rashly Sobremonte. This was followed by the opening remarks of Mrs. Veronica D. Miranda, English Department Head, and the inspirational message delivered by Principal Manaog. Mrs. Antonella M. Aragon, this year’s chairperson of the NRM and English Week celebrations, delivered the closing remarks, with Ms. Roselyn Dela Peña serving as the event’s emcee.
