Before the concert, the students were gathered at the Silangan Hall where they were given a Pre- Symphony Orchestra Orientation by the Arts Department of CCP. After the brief orientation, everybody was directed to proceed to the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino to witness the musical prowess of Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura, Musical Director/Principal Conductor for the PPO ( Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra). In between gaps, Herminigildo Ranera, narrator, gave an animated introduction of various Orchestra Instruments to the Young audiences. Each of the 4 families of the orchestra played their distinct sound to which the learners indulged inquisitively. Joaquin Maria “Chino” Gutierrez, a promising Filipino violinist, also performed a very moving classical piece together with the PPO.
Following the concert, the PCWHS learners and Faculty were all given a sumptuous lunch. The activity ended with a sharing of students’ positive reception of classical music and a heartwarming consciousness of the importance of such immersion in developing their art appreciation of classical music amidst the emergence of popular music and the technological advance of the 21st century.
