Pasay City West High School students showcased these traits and made the school as the over-all champion in the recently concluded SDO Pasay Division Festival of Talents (DFOT) 2024, held on April 12 and 13, 2024, at Jose Rizal Elementary School.
Proving that they have the wit, excellence, skill, and talent, Westians came out victoriously in eight out of 10 categories in the said annual competition.
Coming out as first place and advancing in the regional level Frank Harvey L. Marasigan, Sulat-Bigkas ng Talumpati (John Robert Blas-Trainer) and Shanaiyen Salazar, Extemporaneous Speech in Filipino (Piedad O. Diola – Trainer). The tandem of John Lloyd B. Liba and Robert A. Cebuano (Robelito D. Buac – Trainer) landed second place in Electrical Installation and Maintenance contest while the trio of Khandi Sofia D. Bautista, Lexus Macsen C. Cabarron, and Tricia Mae V. Cadiz (King Alfred Sy – Trainer) also landed at second place in Food Processing category. Meanwhile, Hunter Hangello A. Tabuzo (Cynthia L. Abarquez – Trainer) and Chloe Ysabelle Salagubang (Robert Querubin Banez – Trainer) both settled for third place in read-a-thon and ICT Technical Drafting respectively. The troika of Angelyn B. Bartido, John Nathan B. Baterzal, and Clouie Uzziah V. Moog (Liezel Clemente – Trainer) likewise snagged third place in STEMAZING.
The school’s MADRASAH learners also exhibited their wit and compassion. Hasanor I. Mangontara, trained by Abdulhamid Amerol, was declared second in NASEEHAH, while Nor-Ayyah M. Diamla, also trained by Abdulhamid Amerol, secured third place in Qur’an reading.
The announcement of winners took place during the DFOT closing ceremonies, attended by Joel T. Torrecampo, CESO V, OIC-Office of the Schools Division Superintendent; Dr. Quinn Norman O. Arreza, JD, OIC-Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent; Mr. Librado F. Torres, Chief Education Program Supervisor; Public School District Supervisors, Education Program Supervisors, School Heads, Head Teachers, teacher-trainers, students, and other guests.
Joining the Westian students in receiving their certificates and medals were Mrs. Veronica D. Miranda (English Department Head), Mrs. Celia L. Singcol (MT-II, English Department) Mrs. Socorro C. Domingo (Araling Panlipunan Department Head), and Mr. Giovanni Rex T. Sorita (TVL Department Head). During the event, the school’s Angklung Ensemble and Chorale led the singing of the nationalistic song “Pasay March” and the doxology. The ensemble and the chorale were trained by Ms. Juliet Brioso and Ms. Chrismarilene R. Cabataña respectively. PCWHS’ dance troupe, trained by Mr. Canniel Ordoñez, performed a cultural dance number, while Marie Louise Anne Mercado delivered a Mandarin monologue and Kyla Marie Niez rendered the Mandarin version of “My Heart Will Go On.” Mrs. Celia L. Singcol and Ms. Mary Ann Latupan trained Mercado and Niez respectively.
