Pasay City West High School put into use the numerous drills that it has been doing for the last five years when a 6.3 magnitude quake hit NCR last Aug. 11, 2017.
`The shaking happened at around 1:30 in the afternoon. When the students felt the tremor, they immediately did the drop, cover and hold as they waited for the shaking to stop. When the quake was finally over, they hurriedly went down to the school ground in less than five minutes. There were no reported injuries. The students were sent home at 2:00 pm although the administrators, teachers and a few students stayed in the campus to witness the turn-over ceremony of the LED bulbs from the office of the Vice-President. A month before the said earthquake, the school had joined the nationwide earthquake drill on June 30, 2017, at 9:00 am for the morning session and at 2:00 pm for the afternoon session.
Themed “Bida ang Handa”, the students did the drop, cover and hold exactly when the bell rang before rushing down to the school ground to settle themselves. Class Presidents and monitors were tasked to do the head count. Members of the Supreme Student Government (SSG) Boys Scout/Girls Scout of the Philippines(BSG/GSP),Campus Integrity Crusaders (CIC) and Red Cross Youth were also present to give assistance. They served in the monitoring team, communication team, crowd control team, rescue team, and sweeper team.
