The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) organized an art workshop dubbed as ‘Art-vironment’ as part of the celebration of Science Month 2023 on October 2, at the school’s gymnasium.

Aimed to bridge the powerful connection between artistic expression and environmental awareness, inspiring participants delve into critical environmental issues and foster a sense of responsibility and activism, the event features a poster-making workshop and contest focused on the theme “Art-Vironment Workshop: Intertwining Environmental Protection and Art.”

The workshop included a poster-making contest centered around the theme “Art-Vironment Workshop: Intertwining Environmental Protection and Art.” Mr. Jestoni Rubantes, an award-winning alumnus and artist from PCWHS, a YouTuber, and a vlogger, served as one of the speakers. He shared his coloring techniques and tips, especially for those interested in participating in poster-making contests. Mr. Rubantes also reminisced about his own school days at PCWHS, where he participated in various competitions and dedicated time to practice and improve his art.

Mr. Joel Calalo of Guhit Pinas Young Artist Group, a co-artist of Mr. Rubantes, also served as a speaker during the workshop. He discussed strategies for creating content, including layout, color schemes, and overall impact. Importantly, he shared insights on how to brainstorm and develop ideas in line with the competition’s theme.

“I believe that the workshop aligns perfectly with the Science Month theme that emphasizes the crucial role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in ensuring a prosperous, orderly, and sustainable future. The workshop is an avenue for our students to communicate through art, and bridge knowledge and perception gaps.” These were the words of Mr. Romeo A. Darag, YES-O Adviser when asked about the importance of the workshop. He also expressed that the workshop provides students with an avenue to communicate through art, bridging knowledge and perception gaps, and aims to empower individuals to become advocates for change.

Various students from the JHS and SHS across year levels joined the workshop that lasted for two-and-a-half hours which was followed immediately by the contest. The winners of the poster-making contest will be announced during the closing ceremony.
