On September 8, 2023, the Jose Rizal Elementary School Auditorium hosted a vital gathering of stakeholders, united by a shared concern: ‘Enhancing Safety and Security in Educational Environments.’ Attendees included Mr. Ignacio S. Tolentino III, Assistant SDRRM at Pasay City West High School, representatives from the PNP-Pasay Police Station SWAT and EOD Team, and Dr. Bernardita A. Perez, EPS – SGOD, responsible for Child Protection Policy within the Division of Pasay.
The event served as a platform to underscore the collective dedication towards safeguarding the well-being of both students and staff within the educative community of SDO-Pasay. Acknowledging schools as not just centers of learning but also as safe havens, stakeholders delved into multifaceted safety and security concerns.
The representatives from the Pasay Police Station’s SWAT and EOD Team underscored the pivotal role of law enforcement in guaranteeing the physical security of educational establishments. They shared insights into the strategies and technologies employed to enhance security, emphasizing the significance of a robust presence to discourage potential threats. The discussions encompassed topics such as Bomb Threat Management and the NFS-ELCAC, a government initiative initiated in December 2018 with the aim of addressing the longstanding insurgency by communist rebels in various regions of the country.
In the afternoon, Dr. Bernardita A. Perez, EPS – SGOD, the Child Protection Focal Person of the Division of Pasay, shed light on the importance of cultivating a nurturing and inclusive environment for students, particularly focusing on Child Protection Policy and Anti-Bullying initiatives within schools. This inclusive approach encompasses addressing bullying issues, promoting emotional well-being, and ensuring that students feel encouraged to seek assistance when needed.
The gathering culminated with a collective call to action. Participants acknowledged that ensuring safety and security in schools is a shared responsibility. They emphasized the necessity for continuous improvement, active engagement with parents and the local community, and comprehensive safety education for students.
As we forge ahead, this collaborative endeavor stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of SDO- Pasay in creating safe and secure learning environments. By giving priority to safety, we empower our students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially, thus enabling them to unlock their full potential and make positive contributions to society.
