Two SPFL- Mandarin teachers at Pasay City West High School received Master of Arts degree, major in Chinese Language Teaching (MAEd CLT) Scholarship Program from the Confucius Institute on August 21, 2021.


Kerstine P. Espenida , (Grade 7 teacher) and Lynzhee Star P. Yjan (Grade 8 teacher) joined the 23 other recipients from SPFL-Chinese Mandarin implementing regions in the country. Both English teachers, Espinida and Yjan became part of the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL)-Chinese-Mandarin on April 11, 2017. The MAEd -CLT Program is a project by the Department of Education and the Confucius Institute which was forged through a Memorandum of Agreement on the Joint Training of Local Chinese Mandarin Teachers for the degree Master of Arts in Education major in Chinese Language Teaching (MAEd-CLT).

DepEd noted that the MAEd CLT scholarship is “designed for SPFL Mandarin teachers to enhance their language proficiency and their pedagogical skills in teaching Chinese Mandarin as a foreign language.”
