PCWHS won as SSG best implementer for Makatao and Makakalikasan in Gawad Siklab: Search for Outstanding Program Implementers, Student Leaders, Teacher-Advisers, School Heads, and Regional and Division Youth Formation Coordinators held last June 15, 2021 in Schools Division Office, Pasay City.
The Supreme Student Government, headed by Denbert M. Tiamson – President and under the supervision of Mrs. Arlene T. Jacob – Teacher-Adviser, participated in the said activity last March 2021 for the category Makatao and Makakalikasan. The organization’s programs namely, “Plant of the Month” and “Westians’ Specials,” paved the way for its recognition as Best Implementer among all other schools in Pasay City.
Since last year, SSG has been implementing programs and projects despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. The organization launched the Plant of the Month initiative to encourage the community to plant trees at home. During the lockdown, the pandemic put a strain on our finances that affected our financial capabilities. Because of this, some of us who were unable to afford fresh-produced goods experienced food shortages.
This digital project spearheaded by the SSG emphasizes the importance of planting trees towards a more sustainable environment. Through gathering stories of plant journeys taken by our Westian community, the project helps highlight the efforts of students, teachers and parents in helping solve environmental issues. And with this project, the organization bagged the award for SSG Best Implementer: Makakalikasan.
Along with Plant of the Month, SSG has also spearheaded a project that could bring back what we used to enjoy prior the pandemic. The “Westians’ Specials” is a platform built for all members of the Westian community in the hope of restoring joy and togetherness in the face of adversity. Due to the restrictions of the government, mass gatherings, online concerts and other events were prohibited.
This incident heightened our longing for performances and entertainment that we used to have when we were still conducting face-to-face classes. With this, SSG aims to bring back the spirit of the Westian crowd despite the distance. Last year, the organization invited alumni, teachers, and students to showcase their talents on the SSG Facebook page. The project gained traction, and it helped widen the reach of the organization in school. Because of this initiative, SDO Pasay recognized Pasay City West High School-SSG as Best Implementer for the Makatao category.
Indeed, COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of the students, teachers, parents, and personnel. But it will never stop the excellence and passion that subside in the hearts of the Westian community. Even with all of these challenges, Pasay City West High School, together with its leaders, will always find a way to rise above it. PCWHS community will never stop serving the people even if challenged by this unseen enemy.
