Pasay City Division opened its annual athletic meet on Nov. 19, 2019 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Present in the opening ceremony are Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, Cong. Antonino Calixto, and the members of Pasay City Council. Personnel from DepEd Pasay led by the new School Division Superintendent Dr. Loreta B. Torrecampo, CESO V together with OIC-Assistant Division School Superintendent Dr. Melody P. Cruz, Head of Curriculum Implementation Division Mr. Librado F. Torres, and Head of School Governance and Operations Division Dr. Myrna B. Gaza also came. Likewise present are Education Program Supervisors Dr. Eduardo V. Wong (Filipino), Mrs. Leuvina D. Erni (Araling Panlipunan), Mr. Pedro D. Gloriani (MAPEH), and Public Schools Division Supervisors Dr. Efren E. Canzana (cluster 10/OIC-Principal Pres. Corazon C. Aquino HS)) and Mrs. Lovelyn Jane S. Bacera (cluster 3/OIC-Principal Pasay City National Science HS). Some principals were also there. To wit: Mr. Peter O. Canon, Jr (Pasay City East HS), Ms. Emilia L. Tolentino (Pasay City South HS), Mr. Agapito Teodoro Manaog (Kalayaan National HS), Dr. Felina Patagan (Pasay City North HS-Tramo), and Mr. Nunilon Moreno (Pasay City North HS-M. Dela Cruz).
In her speech, Mayor Emi reminded the student-athletes to be competitive in all the games but never forget to maintain sportsmanship. She stressed that sports should serve as an avenue to promote values such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, unity, and hard work.
Mr. Pedro D. Gloriani introduced the delegates from all the schools in Pasay City Division. This was followed by the wellness exercise led by the Pasay City West High School Dance Troupe.
The program proper started with the singing of the National Anthem, doxology, and Pasay March led by the Pasay City National Science High School Chorale. This was followed by Mr. Gloriani’s welcome remarks and the special message from Congressman Calixto and Mayor Rubiano. Raising of school flags followed which was led by Mayor Rubiano and Dr. Torrecampo together with the EPS, PSDS and schools principals.
Pasay City student-athletes who qualified in the last Palarong Pambansa led the entrance of torch and the lighting of cauldron before national athlete Pauline N. Pardinas (wushu) led the oath of sportsmanship. Then, Mrs. Glenda B. Tabaquirao, Principal IV (T. Paez Elementary School) sworn the tournament’s officiating personnel.
Dr. Torrecampo formally declared the athletic meet open. She was later joined by Mayor Rubiano, Congressman Calixto and other Deped personnel for the ceremonial tossing of the ball.
A number of production numbers were presented. Pasay City West High School Performing Arts did the wellness dance exercise and a dance demonstration while the dance sports team of Pasay did an exhibition. Folk dances were done by students from Apelo Cruz ES, Kappa Malong-Malong Dance Troupe of Pasay City East HS, Folkloric Dance Group of Pasay City Science National HS.
Emcees of the program are Mr. Gil C. Ganelo and Mrs. Elizabeth M. Avila. This year’s athletic meet focuses on the theme “Sipag at Husay Taglay ng Atleatng Pasay”.
