PCWHS Teacher bags Gold in the 2019 Inter- Government Agency Festival of Sports

Pasay City West Senior High School Sports Coordinator Joana Marie Carina Gabunilas bags gold in the 2019 Inter- Government Agency Festival of Sports by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Gabunilas placed 1^st for Team DEPED in the Women’s Table Tennis category. Coming in 2^nd placed-Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) – while the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) placed 3^rd.

Aside from Gabunilas, Team DEPED for Women’s Table Tennis category was composed of Norene Joyce Soriano (Manuel A. Roxas High School), Jheanne Garbin (Victorino Mapa High School), Caroline Picache (Paranaque Science High School) , and Gianna Gaddi (Carlos F. Gonzales High School) who were coincidentally Gabunilas’ UAAP buddies.

Gabunilas, who recently earned her Doctorate degree at Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), is a known advocate of sports. She shared her thoughts on the importance of sports and why she continues to play and support it. “Sports taught me that there is no short cut in every success. If you want to reach it, then work hard for it and set aside excuses. It’s finding a fuel in an empty tank, where fuel is victory and the empty tank is excuses. And most of all, sports is a great reminder of societal equality. For those who are academically inclined let them study harder and succeed and for those who are in sports let them play to grow and conquer their dreams.”
