With the theme of “Unity in Diversity: Quality Education for All”, Pasay City West High School held the 4th Moving Up Ceremonies at the Cuneta Astrodome on April 3, 2019.
The program started with a processional and entrance of colors. Present in the event were Congresswoman Emi Calixto-Rubiano; Coun. Joey Calixto-Isidro (representing Mayor Tony Calixto); Dr. Melody Cruz, Assist. Schools Division Superintendent; Dr. Myrna B. Gaza, Principal IV, PCWHS; Dr. Efren E. Canzana, District Supervisor, cluster 9; Mr. Peter O. Canon Jr., Principal, Pasay East High School; Mr. Nunilon Moreno, Principal Pasay City National High School, Mrs. Grace B. Torres, Assist. Principal, PCWHS-SHS; Dr. Anita R. Atienza, Assist. Principal, PCWHS-JHS, department heads, faculty members and parents.
Congresswoman Emi Calixto-Rubiano told the completers to keep on dreaming. “Never stop dreaming. Work hard and be happy.”, said the Solon. She stressed that they (completers) should always be opened to accept new challenges adding that “Whatever choice you make it will help you do good in life and you make good the result will be generous”. The Solon added “Anumang bagay, kapag pinagtutulung-tulungan at pinagkakaisahan ay mas madaling makakamtan” She emphasized that at the end of everything it is not only the students who will benefit from the good outcome of their education but also the community, the city, and the country.
Coun. Joey Calixto-Isidro read the message of Mayor Toy Calixto. The mayor emphasized the importance of education in preparing the students to face the challenges of the future. The mayor also said that this year’s theme reflects the City’s united efforts to provide high quality education to Pasay City children. He explained that even with diverse culture, religion, beliefs or status in life we assure that all children in our city will be provided with life changing education while saying that education unites everyone towards a common goal – to give each and every one an opportunity to become responsible members of our society. He reminded the completers that there will be many challenges ahead, but they must never give up and never stop breaking those challenges adding that their parents, teachers, friends and their government will continue to give them the support that they need. The Mayor likewise stressed that the Pasay City Government is with the students in their journey towards a better life.
Dr. Gaza presented the candidates for completion while Dr. Cruz did the confirmation. Diplomas and medals were distributed by Dr. Cruz, Dr. Canzana and Dr. Gaza with the assistance of the department heads. Denbert M. Tiamzon, this year’s top completer welcomed the completers and the guests as Rachel Mae J. Quibete led the pledge of loyalty. Mrs. Madelyn Buenaobra emceed the event while PCWHS Boy scouts led the entrance and exit of colors. The school’s Angklung Ensemble led the singing of the National Anthem as well as the Pasay March with Miss Juliet Brioso conducting. Mr. Rodolfo Del Rosario did the invocation. The completers sang “DO I make You Proud” with Mrs. Chrismalene R. Cabantaña conducting.
