To help the grade 10 students in making their proper career choice, Pasay City West High School held the Career Guidance Week on Oct. 17 and 18 2019.

Themed ‘Tag a Career, Like the Future’, The two-day event kicked-off on Oct. 17 at the school gym. Gracing the annual affair are former OIC-Principal Dr. Anita R. Atienza, SHS Assist. Principal Mrs. Grace B. Torres, SHS Guidance Coordinator Mr. Randy Delfino, SHS master Teachers Ms. Jan Espejo and Mr. Mayorico Apelado, JHS Guidance teacher Mrs. Rosy P. Buctuan, Grade 10 Coordinator and English Department Head Mrs. Veronica D. Miranda, Filipino Department Head Mrs. Bettina Amiscaray, PESO-Pasay Representative Mrs. Edith Felipe and the grade 10 advisers and teachers.

The program started with the parade of grade 10 students who were dressed according to their dream jobs. Most students came wearing a scientist’s laboratory gown, a doctor’s suit, an engineer/architect’s hard hat, a chef’s hat, a teacher’s uniform, among others. A short interview with the students followed the parade.

Mr. Delfino gave the opening remarks while Ms. Espejo named the track offered by PCWHS. She also explained the importance of choosing the right track because unlike in JHS in which the subjects in all the grade levels are the same, those in the SHS, subjects differ from one track to another. Hence, the subjects in TVL track are different from the STE subjects.. With this, those who will change their track will have to extend one more year in SHS as they will spend extra year in taking the subjects that they have missed when they were still enrolled in their first choice of track.

Meanwhile, Mr. Apelado reminded the students that the slots in PCWHS-SHS are limited and so the school can only accommodate a number of students. He said that JHS completers of PCWSH will be prioritized during the enrollment but once the student chose to transfer to another school, the slot of that student will be given to student who are non PCWHS completer. He explained if that student who transferred to another school decided to go back to PCWHS, there is a great chance that he or she will not be admitted because his or her slot was already  given to other student/s. Mr. Apelado likewise stressed that though some schools offer the same track, that does not mean that the subjects are the same. He emphasized that the tracks’ subjects  in different school have different subject description; hence transferring from one school   to another can extend the       student’s stay in SHS.                                PESO-Pasay representative talk about the job offerings within Pasay City. She reminded the students to consider the job market within Pasay City and nearby cities so they can maximize the benefits of SHS program.

Before the program ended, the school gave each speaker, a plaque of appreciation. Mrs. Rosy Buctuan did the honor. This was followed by Mrs. Mranda’s closing remarks. Emcees of the event are Dwight Ciervo and Ezra Espaňola.
